Job Title:    Middle School Cross Country Head Coach
Reports to: Grades 6-12 Activity & Athletic Director
Salary:       $1,200 – $1,600
Work year: Seasonal
 
Job Summary:
          Join our staff as the Middle School Cross Country Head Coach and lead a team of highly dedicated student athletes. The Head Cross Country Coach is responsible for developing and sustaining a successful program with a strong emphasis on skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, developing character and promoting a wholesome cross country team.
 
Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A teacher with a current teaching license is preferred but not a requirement.
  • Current CPR and AED Certification.
  • Previous coaching experience in this sport is desirable.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district’s insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Instruct players about the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Instructs student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student athlete should receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.
  • Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.
  • Develop and implement procedures for ensuring open communication with parents and athletes.
  • Establish direction and expectations for all program participants.
  • Establish supervision responsibilities for practice, games, team trips, and locker rooms.
  • Develop and implement individual/team training plans by the day, week, month, year as appropriate.
  • Monitor athlete attendance/behavior/academic status.
  • Be responsible for, understanding, adhering to, enforcing, implementing district, school and athletic policies.
  • Ability to use approved first-aid and CPR skills.
  • Understand the signs and symptoms of concussions and remove players that are exhibiting signs and symptoms of concussions.
  • Has previous successful teaching, coaching and/or sport participation experience.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Promote an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Support the value of education.
  • Maintain good public relations for the Cross Country program
  • Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.
