Job Description The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider a challenging and gratifying employment opportunity with our agency. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to join our team as Bridges Transition Teacher for the Blind/Low Vision located in Ogden.
The Bridges Transition Teacher at the Utah School for the Blind will play a critical role in preparing students with visual impairments for life after secondary education. This position focuses on equipping students with the necessary skills, resources, and support to successfully transition from school to post-secondary education, vocational training, employment, and independent living. Working Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Principal Duties: As an Educator you will: -Works with the Bridges High School teacher to develop and implement individualized transition plans for students with visual impairments, in collaboration with students, families, educators, and community partners. -Works with the Bridges Residential Life staff and coordinator to develop and implement independent residential living plans for students to address their skill development needs. -Supports transition skills in the school-based program and Bridges Residential Life program. -Provide instruction and support in areas such as career exploration, job readiness, independent living skills, self-advocacy, and post-secondary education options. -Coordinate work-based learning experiences, internships, and job shadowing opportunities to help students gain real-world skills and experiences. -Assist students in researching and applying for post-secondary education programs, vocational training, and employment opportunities. -Collaborate with vocational rehabilitation services, community agencies, and employers to facilitate successful transitions for students. -Conduct assessments to monitor student progress, evaluate transition goals, and adjust plans as needed. -Provide guidance and support to students in developing resumes, preparing for interviews, and navigating the job application process. -Organize transition fairs, workshops, and informational sessions to connect students with resources and opportunities in the community. -Maintain accurate records of student transition plans, progress, and outcomes to track successes and areas for growth. -Communicate effectively with students, families, school staff, and community partners to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to transition services.
