Description

The Utah County Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is a public early college high school located in Provo, Utah.  UCAS students are working to accelerate their education in science, technology, engineering, or math.
 
Job Goal: To create a classroom atmosphere that encourages creative thinking, promotes excellent knowledge acquisition, and fosters a love of learning. To provide a safe, stimulating environment, and develop a strong sense of ethics with high school students.
 
Minimum Qualifications: Current Utah State Secondary Education certificate or college instructor status qualifying for an Associate License with intent to earn a Professional License. Priority will be given to applicants who hold a Master’s Degree in a related field. Applicants must model honesty, integrity, and exemplary character. Applicants must work well with high school age students.
 
Education and/or Experience: Experience in education preferred.
 
Position Information: 185 days (180 school days, 5 prep days) beginning August 2024. UCAS participates in the Utah Retirement System, provides sick leave, and personal leave to all teachers. Salary varies with experience and education.

Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
 
Curriculum and Instruction 
  1. Teach the state and UVU curriculum in addition to curriculum items appropriate to this age and group of students that will help prepare them for life.
  2. Maintain a plan book of lesson plans and outlines as well as a detailed course scope and sequence that includes responsible digital citizenship. Provide emergency or substitute lesson plans as needed.
  3. Be responsible for planning and implementing an instructional program that utilizes multiple teaching methods to reach the individual needs, interests, abilities and maturity levels of the students. Plans should build on coding classes that many students take in 9th and 10th grades, but also should be versatile enough to cater to students with only a bit of programming experience.
  4. Be available to help students outside of class time such as before school, after school, or during lunch.
  5. Plan instruction with other technology instructors to ensure a smooth transition for students moving between classes and levels. 
Other responsibilities:
  1. Attend faculty meetings and professional development meetings.
  2. Serve on committees as requested.
  3. Supervise school activities as requested.
  4. Supervise, evaluate, and provide work assignments to assigned student teachers and other support staff.
  5. Act as a contributing staff member to foster a positive, cooperative educational environment. 
Student supervision
  1. Evaluate and provide individual student progress information on regular basis.  Maintain required records.  Provide accurate sensitive feedback to student assignments.
  2. Identify and refer unusual or at-risk student behavior to a school counselor.
  3. Establish and enforce a reasonable classroom discipline plan. Be responsible for the supervision of students at all times.
