Description

DEFINITION:  The Parapro Intervention works directly with the classroom teacher(s) to provide intervention programs for students who require additional time and alternative strategies in reading, writing and math.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Tutors individual and small groups of students to reinforce and support learning activities; assists in the development of a variety of intervention materials; runs copies and laminations for teachers; delivers supplies to classrooms; grades classwork; monitors and assists students in learning activities such as guided practice, repetition, and assessment; meets and collaborates regularly with other Interventionists.
 
Oversees and supervises students during intervention activities, learning labs, field trips, and on playgrounds; substitutes in general education classrooms; maintains a log of daily intervention activities directly related to student achievement; monitors testing; demonstrates good oral and written communication; attends appropriate trainings as required; willing to be cross-trained in other content and skill capacities as necessary; performs other duties as assigned.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of student learning and behavior characteristics.
Knowledge of general purposes and goals of intervention programs.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of diversity in the student body, teaching staff and parent groups.
Skill in the use of personal computer and related software.
Skill in routine record keeping.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent, passing the Parapro Assessment Test, Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card 
One (1) year of classroom experience preferably with children, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  

 
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
 
Salary Grade:  D       Hourly Pay: $16.65         Hours per Day:  6         Days:  189         Start Date: 2024/2025 School Year
