Description

    DEFINITION: Under close supervision, maintains safe and clean environment and assists in grounds keeping and maintenance tasks for an assigned school for Sunnyside Unified School District.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    TASKS:
    Manages a custodial crew of 8 or more; opens and/or closes school buildings and grounds; locks and unlocks all doors and gates; sets and controls alarm systems; checks campus for vandalism; cleans cafeteria, hallways, stairways, blackboards and restrooms; empties trash; stocks and delivers supplies to appropriate classroom or staff; sets up for special events; assemble furniture when needed; performs routine maintenance in the classrooms/restrooms; inspects machines and equipment for safety and efficiency on a regular basis as and before requesting maintenance repair, checks vacuum cleaners for cleanliness and electrical cords weekly.
     
    Assists in washing, cleaning and dusting of outside of buildings, walls, doors, tables, walkways, etc.; maintains records of work orders and equipment out for repair; assists in the annual inventory of all equipment in the school; changes combinations on lockers and maintains log of combinations; sets up and breaks down for special events; moves furniture, equipment, or fixtures as requested; assists in the maintenance of school grounds; checks sprinkler heads and lines; develops and maintains a preventative maintenance system and schedule; maintains supplies and materials.
     
    Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects restrooms, locker rooms, showers and drinking fountains; checks gauges to ensure heating and cooling system is operating within established limits; assists teachers upon request; sweeps, mops and waxes floors; vacuums carpet and floors; sanitizes buildings; cleans mirrors and windows; cleans office areas; changes out lights ceiling tiles and fixtures; performs basic building maintenance; fixes loose carpet; reports maintenance and repair problems to principal/assistant principal; performs related duties as assigned.
     
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
    Knowledge of grounds keeping and custodial practices, procedures and techniques.
    Knowledge of proper methods, materials and equipment used in grounds keeping and custodial practices.
    Knowledge of cleaning methods for floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
    Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions when handling cleaning supplies, chemicals, or equipment.
    Skill in safely using and maintaining equipment and tools to complete assigned projects.
    Skill in cleaning and maintaining school sites facilities and grounds.
    Skill in following oral and written instructions.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
    Skill in verbal and written communication
    Skill in reading and comprehending written/graphic (prints) and oral instructions.
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting. May be exposed to moving equipment, extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes and chemicals and infectious diseases. 
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Three (3) years of grounds keeping, maintenance, or custodial experience, or equivalent combination of education or experience.
    Must successfully complete the mandatory SUSD New-Hire Custodial Training prior to placement in position.
    Post-offer/pre-employment industrial physical exam including background check required.
    Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
    Valid Arizona State Driver’s License required within ten (10) days of hire date, and an acceptable driving record.
     
    Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.

    Salary Grade: G        Hourly Pay: $18.30         Hours per Day: 8          Days: 260       Start Date:  2024/2025 School Year
