Description

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs clerical and record keeping functions within the benefits department for Sunnyside Unified School District.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
  • Completes benefits enrollment and withdrawal procedures for employees using the benefits software
  • Conducts group and individual benefits orientations
  • Answers questions and counsels employees regarding insurance, retirement, early retirement and other benefit programs
  • Maintains all pertinent active and inactive records for group medical, dental, life, short-term disability and voluntary insurance selections
  • Initiates, maintains, and completes the leave of absence process according to District policy and FMLA regulations
  • Calculates missed deductions and enters information into next payroll cycle or sends billing notification to employee
  • Ensures application of all Federal and State Health Insurance, Life Insurance and Retirement Plan regulations.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality to safeguard employee privacy
  • Prepares and records bank deposits, updates and maintains accuracy of check register
  • Answers phones
  • Works with outside vendors to problem solve on behalf of employees; uses vendor software as needed to review/correct enrollment.  
  • Reviews benefit actions for accuracy and follows up to obtain missing information.
  • Duties rotate monthly and shared among team members.
  • Works successfully with other internal departments such as payroll and accounting as well as outside vendors to ensure accurate end-to-end processing occurs, including eligibility and enrollment, data entry and payroll deductions. 
  • Provides customer service to District personnel

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Federal laws and regulations governing benefits and the Family Medical Leave Act.
Knowledge of benefit plans and current insurance trends.
Knowledge of typing, calculators and filing systems.
Skill in the use of a personal computer and related software.
Skill in maintaining and tracking documents and reports.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor and lifting up to 20 pounds.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years of clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or equivalent.
 
Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
 
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.



Salary Grade: K      Hourly Pay: $20.50      Hours per Day:   8      Days in Contract: 260       Start Date: 2023/2024 School Year
