Computer Science (Grades 9-12)

Position Purpose
Salt Lake Academy High School is a 9-12 charter school located in Herriman, UT. Our enrollment is 400 with 65 student athletes being a part of the Real Salt Lake professional soccer program. Our diversity and partnership with RSL make us the most unique and exciting charter school in the state of Utah. We offer competitive pay starting at $53,200. This is an exciting position at our school !!  Under the general supervision of the School Principal, you will be developing an entirely new course offering. We are thrilled to have grown to a size where we can start to add new and exciting courses and computer science is our top choice to best serve our student population. 

Essential Functions

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive computer science curriculum that aligns with state standards and prepares students for advanced study or careers in the field.
  • Instruction: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in computer science concepts, programming languages, and software development methodologies to students with varying levels of expertise.
  • Assessment: Design and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress, providing timely feedback to support student learning and growth.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated to explore and excel in computer science.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with developments in computer science education, participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching practices.
  • Student Support: Provide academic and career guidance to students interested in pursuing further studies or careers in computer science, including assistance with college applications and industry certifications.
  • Technology Integration: Integrate technology tools and resources into instruction to enhance student learning and prepare students for technology-driven careers.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues, industry partners, and community organizations to enhance the computer science program and create real-world learning opportunities for students.


Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.
Coaching experience in soccer, volleyball or basketball is welcome.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License:
Utah State Certification as an English Education Teacher.
ESL Endorsement is beneficial

Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Masters Degree is beneficial. Opportunities to teach concurrent enrollment courses with SLCC for candidates with a masters degree.

Experience:
Successful prior teaching experiences in Computer Science courses is a plus.
