TITLE:  HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Arizona School Counselor certification 

  • Master’s degree in school counseling

  • 3 or more years of counseling experience preferred

  • Fingerprint clearance card 

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as Paragon may find acceptable.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Experience as a school counselor implementing the ASCA National Model   

  • Experience advocating for school counseling programs to all stakeholder groups  

  • Establishing professional relationships within the school and the school community to enhance student achievement  

  • Experience in the use of technology in research, school counseling program development, management, and delivery 

  • Actively involved in school community  

  • Leadership experience   

  • Ability to work with diverse populations and cultures

  • Desire for continued professional development  

REPORTS TO:  High School Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL:  To promote student success through the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social needs of students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans, organizes, and delivers the comprehensive school counseling program. 

  2. Delivers and implements the guidance curriculum through the use of effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured classroom lessons and small group sessions. 

  3. Implements the individual student planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students and their parents through the development of education and career plans. 

  4. Implements the responsive services component through the effective use of individual and small group counseling, consultation and referral skills. 

  5. Implements the systems support component through effective guidance program management and support for other educational programs.   

  6. Meets with the school administrator at the beginning of the school year to discuss the counseling department management system and the program action plans using a yearly counselor/principal agreement. 

  7. Uses data as a guide when deciding school counseling program direction and emphasis. 

  8. Monitors the students on a regular basis as they progress in school. 

  9. Implements the master calendar/time component to have an efficiently run program. 

  10. Develops a results evaluation for the program. 

  11. Conducts yearly school counseling program audits. 

  12. Shares the results of the school counseling program with the advisory council. 

  13. Uses the skills of leadership, advocacy and collaboration to create systemic change to improve the academic and career success of all students.

  14. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as Paragon Management may from time to time assign.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  206 days per year.  Hours normally 7:30am - 4:00pm.

EVALUATION:  Annually at a minimum by the Principal/Lead Counselor
