JOB TITLE: Teacher - Enrichment

DEPARTMENT: Owasso Elementary Schools

REPORTS TO: Principal

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CONTRACT STATUS: Full-time / 180-days

SALARY SCHEDULE: Certified

SUMMARY:  Responsible for organizing, implementing, and supporting modified instructional strategies to meet the needs of gifted students through enrichment programs and/or general education classrooms.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  1. Planning:

  1. Designing or selecting appropriate instructional modifications for gifted students and coordinating these activities with other teachers as appropriate

  2. Continuing professional growth through education meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas among the district staff

  3. Working in coordination with other teachers in planning and developing the program

  • Programming:

    1. Preparing, implementing, and evaluating educational plans for gifted students based on assessed needs in accordance with district procedures

    2. Preparing lesson plans for each group of gifted students in an enrichment program outside the general classroom 

    3. Teaching lessons to gifted students at a scheduled time in an enrichment program outside the general classroom

    4. Utilizing appropriate instructional resources to meet the needs of gifted students

    5. Developing and monitoring the modified strategies for the students in coordination with the general education and enrichment teachers, as appropriate

    6. Providing direct consultation with general education teachers on how to implement strategies

    7. Participating in staffing meetings, student conferences, parent conferences

    8. Providing specialized instruction to individual and small groups of gifted students when necessary to support learning the content areas

    9. Assisting in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials for teaching gifted students 

  • Collaboration:

    1. Collaborating with site personnel to coordinate gifted services within a school

    2. Collaborating with site personnel to provide academic extension support to students.

    3. Developing and conducting necessary inservice programs to inform general education classroom teachers of the goals and objectives for gifted students, as appropriate

    4. Conferring with other teachers concerning any educational needs of gifted students

    5. Working to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic, social and emotional needs of gifted students in the enrichment program

  • Reporting:

    1. Ensuring that each student in the gifted education program has necessary documentation of progress made in the gifted program

    2. Documenting ongoing consultation with general education teachers and maintaining a record of modified instructional strategies and results for each student where appropriate

  • Attending and participating in faculty meeting or other meetings as required

  • Participating in the duty schedule of school campuses

  • Displaying the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school  

  • Protecting confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any information obtained in

  • Assists with special projects.

  • All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field

    2. Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate

    3. A minimum of three to five years of teaching experience preferred

    4. Advanced professional or development in gifted education preferred

     

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education and special education.  Ability to follow all district policies and procedures.  Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done.  Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen effectively.  

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language including common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

     

    REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
