JOB TITLE:                      Teacher - Special Education Developmentally Delayed (DD)

DEPARTMENT:                School Site

REPORTS TO:                  Principal

FLSA STATUS:                 Exempt

CONTRACT STATUS:      Full-time / 180-days / Extra Duty

SALARY SCHEDULE:     Certified / Extra Duty

SUMMARY:   The teacher will provide developmentally appropriate instruction, assessment, and program planning for special education students ages 3-5 with developmental delays. Assess students’ abilities and develop individualized education plans consistent with treatment goals. Coordinate programs for therapeutic purposes and integrate overall developmental goals into the academic setting. Manage students' behavior to create a safe physical and emotional classroom environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required.

  1. Plan, develop, and implement curriculum and educational programs in accordance with educational/treatment goals and students’ abilities.Participate in transdisciplinary team meetings, multidisciplinary staffing, annual reviews, parent conferences, and faculty meetings. 

  1. Promote an optimal learning environment by effectively managing student behavior to enhance their educational journey. 

  2. Interact and consult with specialists as appropriate to plan and prepare each child’s individualized educational program in accordance with the goals.

  3. Coordinate and lead paraprofessionals in the provision of special education and related services to students with disabilities, including student personal care.

  4. Assess each student's performance, comprehension, and proficiency in relation to the curriculum being taught.

  5. Monitor and evaluate the progress and behavior of eligible special education students; prepare progress reports and report cards as appropriate. 

  6. Select and requisition books, instructional aids, equipment tools, materials, supplies, and parts as required.

  7. Instruct students in adaptive behavior  skills for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency.

  8. Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students.

  9. Coordinate placement of students with special needs into mainstream classes.

  10. Assists with special projects.

  11. All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.

  2. Valid Oklahoma Early Childhood or Elementary Education Teaching Certificate

  3. Valid Oklahoma Special Education Teaching Certificate in Mild/Moderate or Special Education Comprehensive

 

EXTRA DUTY:  In addition to the 180-day contract, will work additional hours as necessary on Extra Duty Contract.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and laws applicable to education and special education.  Ability to follow all district policies and procedures.  Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done.  Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen effectively.  

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the English language including common 

general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, administration, staff, parents, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
