Summer School Employment

June 24, 2024- July 18, 2024  MONDAY- THURSDAY (All schools and programs)

Elementary Staff hours will be 8:15am - 2:00pm
Elementary Student hours will be 8:30am -1:45pm

Secondary Staff hours will be 7:15am - 1:15pm
Secondary Student hours will be 7:30am -1:00pm

REQUIRED work day will be on June 18 for Elementary  8 am -3pm
REQUIRED work day will be on June 20 for NMS/NHS 8 am -3pm


NO SCHOOL on Thursday July 4.

All Summer Programs-R.A.I.S.E. RECOVERY/ENRICHMENT ACADEMY, MIGRANT SUMMER SCHOOL & EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR (Special Education)  
*Please indicate which summer program and location in which you desire to work.*

Teachers/Tutors (Certified) $40.00/ hr.
Teacher (non Certified w/ Bachelor degree) 32.00/hr
Teacher (non Certified w/ Associates degree) / Instructional Assistants $24.00/ hr.
Other Support Staff $27.60/hr. (Migrant Summer School only)


Primary Purpose

(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
  • Remediation, recovery of academic loss/credits that occurred during school closure, enrichment, and to equip students with 21st Century college, career, and citizen-ready skills
  • Comprehensive program to maximize instructional interventions for grades K-12, across all learning tiers, and current academic needs (ELs and Students with Disabilities)
  • Balanced blend of engaging academic interventions and extracurricular activities
  • 30-minute structured recess and 30-minute hands-on STEM experiences
  • Rigorous concentration placed in Literacy and Math
  • Teaching and re-teaching the SOL’s missed because of lost instructional time during school closure
  • Integration of social emotion supports/activities designed to satisfy interests and curiosities outside of reading and math
  • Pre-assessment to identify student areas of deficiency
  • Explicit/Direct teaching of concepts identified in the Pre-Assessment which align with the curriculum framework in both content and rigor
  • Use of supplemental programs will be used to supplement explicit/direct teaching
  • Second Step Social and Emotional Learning and Virginia Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework
  • Small group instruction will occur after explicit/direct teaching for students needing additional support in mastering the curricular strand
  • Post-Assessment to determine student growth
  • Report card sent home based on a student’s performance in each content area

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Use standard office equipment such as; personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. 

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. 

Work Schedule
Standard work schedule as set forth in the Hourly Work Agreement 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of art curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License:

  • State Certification, Assessment, License, Degree, Diploma as required for position.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education/Qualification Profile
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  
    Ranging from Diploma-Bachelors/Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment (depending on position.)
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus.
