Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Date of Availability: Mid-August 2024, Open Until Filled

Contract Length: 178 days

Salary: Dependent upon education, experience, and negotiated contract. See MSEA Master Contract Agreement on our website for full pay schedule.

Mid-State is seeking a highly qualified Occupational Therapist to provide services to children with exceptional educational needs, and to educate staff when children require occupational therapy to benefit from special education.  To improve, develop, restore, or maintain a child’s active participation in self-maintenance, work, leisure, and play in education environments. 

Position Overview:
  • Under the direction of the Administration, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for planning, implementing, and providing direct/indirect occupational services to children with special education needs.
  • To assist them to improve, develop, restore, or maintain their participation in school work, self-help, or play in educational environments consistent with state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Responsibilities: 
  • Conduct appropriate evaluations of children referred
  • Prepare written reports of the evaluation conducted and the findings
  • Participate in the development of IEP’s for children
  • Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy to children in educational environments
  • Collaborate with other school personnel regarding occupational therapy and the children’s needs
  • Travel to and among schools to provide service to children
  • Maintain records of service provided
  • Lift, transfer and position children and equipment as necessary to provide occupational therapy.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Current certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Current Occupational Therapy license from the Minnesota Department of Health. 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
 Assignment Location:

Mid-State Education District Programs and Member Districts: Royalton, Swanville, Upsala, Pierz, and Onamia
