POSITION:     Supervisor of School Safety
 
Salary/Hours:                                     

• Pay scale: Grade 15
• Position Length: 12 months
• Hours: Full time unless otherwise specified

 
JOB SUMMARY: Ensure a safe and secure learning and working environment for students and staff.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Bachelor’s Degree in education or public safety/emergency management required.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years in education or safety related field required. Experience in school safety preferred.
• Minimum of three years leadership experience preferred.
• Industry certifications preferred, (C.R.M.- Certified Risk Manager or C.S.R.M.- Certified School Risk Manager)
• Comparable amount of training and certification may be considered as experience.

 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
 

• Oversees development and implementation of school emergency preparedness and response plans.
• Serves as school emergency manager in coordination with local, regional, and state emergency managers.
• Oversees compliance with school safety drills and exercises.
• Coordinates and assists with crisis communication.
• Leads School Safety Coordinators in regular meetings to update school crisis plans, safety checklists, and drill ledgers.
• Oversees visitor management system.
• Leads all division level safety training in coordination with local police and fire departments.
• Serves as primary point of contact for all school security upgrades including camera systems, access control, and physical hardening of school buildings.
• Manages and oversees access control system.
• Manages and assigns badges for school personnel.
• Conducts annual school safety survey and school safety audits.
• Oversees compliance checks for fire extinguishers and AEDs.
• Manages school emergency go bags.
• Supervises volunteer application process.
• Maintain division and school-based radios.
• Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all policies and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
• Performs all duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.

 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
