Position: Criminal Justice Teacher
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Certification: Valid Florida Educator's Certificate or eligible for certification in Criminal Justice, Social Science, or a related vocational field. (Specific subject area certification in Criminal Justice is highly preferred).
- Experience: Previous teaching experience, particularly at the high school level, is preferred. Practical experience in a criminal justice field (e.g., law enforcement, legal, corrections) is a significant asset.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the American criminal justice system, legal principles, and related disciplines.
- Strong pedagogical skills and a commitment to student-centered learning.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in educational technology and willingness to integrate it into instruction.
- Ability to inspire and motivate high school students.
LaBelle High School is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Criminal Justice Teacher to join our dedicated faculty for the upcoming academic year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the field of criminal justice, possess a deep understanding of its various components, and be committed to fostering an engaging and informative learning environment for high school students. This position requires a 10-month commitment, aligning with the traditional school calendar. The Criminal Justice teacher will be responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction, preparing students for potential careers or further education in criminal justice, and contributing to the overall positive school culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES |
- Instructional Delivery:
- Develop and implement engaging and rigorous lesson plans aligned with Florida's state standards (curriculum frameworks) for Criminal Justice education.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Provide students with a foundational understanding of the American criminal justice system, including law enforcement, courts, corrections, and legal principles.
- Incorporate current events, case studies, and real-world examples to enhance student understanding and engagement.
- Prepare students for relevant certifications or post-secondary pathways in criminal justice, if applicable to the curriculum.
- Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement effective classroom management techniques to ensure student engagement and minimize disruptions.
- Adhere to all school and district policies regarding student conduct and discipline.
- Assessment and Grading:
- Develop and administer various assessments to measure student learning and progress (e.g., quizzes, tests, projects, presentations).
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student grades and attendance.
- Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with colleagues and administration to review and refine the Criminal Justice curriculum.
- Stay current with best practices and developments in criminal justice education.
- Identify and integrate appropriate resources, technologies, and guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
- Professionalism and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Collaborate with guidance counselors and administrators to support student academic and career goals.
- Maintain professional ethical standards and adhere to all Hendry County School District policies and procedures.
- Extracurricular Involvement (Optional but Encouraged):
- Sponsor or assist with student clubs or organizations related to criminal justice (e.g., Mock Trial, Florida Public Service Association (FPSA), Honor Guard, with a criminal justice focus, etc.).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS |
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT |
Calendar Months: 10 Month
Salary Schedule: Instructional (Bargaining)Pay Grade: Base
Salary and Benefits as determined and approved annually by Hendry County School Board.
EVALUATION |
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board Policies for evaluation of administrative personnel.
