TITLE: BEHAVIOR  SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
  2. Certified as School Psychologist, a Behavior Specialist, or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
  3. Internship in a school setting or with youth.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Student Education & Student Services

JOB GOAL: To improve the academic achievement, behavioral/social skills, and emotional well-being of all students through direct contact with student or consultation with other professionals.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ability to develop detailed behavior management plans with rationale for implementation. 
  2. Ability to speak effectively before all members of the school community.
  3. Ability to interpret statistical data in relation to behavioral scales. 
  4. Ability to apply common sense understanding and to communicate options and solutions when several variables exist.
  5. Assist the guidance counselors and other staff in interventions, and referrals for formal evaluation of students with disabilities.
  6. Writes behavioral plans for students and assists in the implementation of such plans.
  7. Intervenes with crisis situations
  8. Writes and monitors behavior plans for students and assists in and monitors the implementation of such plans to ensure student success.
  9. Intervenes with exceptional students/teachers to provide research-based and field-tested interventons.
  10. Monitors and provides follow-up for recommended interventions to ensure student success.
  11. Counsels exceptional students individually and in small groups when appropriate.
  12. Assists in the implementation of Rti, MTSS, IEP, and other meetings.
  13. Coordinates the conflict resolution process with exceptional students.
  14. Trains administrators and paraprofessionals regarding effective interventions and  behavioral techniques.
  15. Consults with regular education teachers regarding the behavioral needs of exceptional students.
  16. Trains transportation staff regarding the use of behavioral management programs on buses.
  17. Initiates referrals to family services and coordinates outside agency participation with exceptional students and their families.
  18. All other such job related duties as shall be assigned by the immediate supervisor, the Superintendent of Schools, or the board.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Eleven months.  Salary and work year to be established by the board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor.
