POSITION INFORMATION:

Employment Period:  12 months
Employment Status: Full-time
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Start Date: July 2024


SUMMARY:
 

Hampton City Schools is seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to supervise the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive K-12 curriculum and instructional framework that aligns with the district's mission, educational goals, and state standards. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a deep understanding of best practices in teaching and learning, with experience writing and/or implementing curriculum and assessments across a variety of grade levels and content areas, and who is committed to fostering academic excellence and equity across all schools within the division.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 
  • Coordinates the creation of a guaranteed and viable K-12 written curriculum by working closely with curriculum leaders in all content areas to ensure the curriculum is engaging and aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and curriculum frameworks.
  • Works with curriculum leaders to create a program for professional development opportunities and resources for educators to enhance instructional practices and outcomes.
  • Leads the assessment strategy for the district, including the selection, development, and implementation of effective formative and summative assessment tools.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and assessment initiatives, making data-informed adjustments to drive academic success.
  • Works with the division leadership team to determine instructional priorities for schools based on data.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local mandates and policies related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Stays abreast of research and updates in the educational field and uses this information to design and coordinate the implementation of innovative educational strategies.
  • Collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
  • Coordinates with managers of various projects to create logic models for project evaluations that consist of: Resources/Inputs, Activities, Outputs, Outcomes, and Impacts. Projects may include, but are not limited to: Curriculum Writing, Curriculum Implementation, New Teacher Induction/Orientation, Social Emotional Learning, Project-based Learning, etc..
  • Works with the Director of Information Systems and Accountability  to select and review data to inform the success of the various programs, including (but not limited to) Standards of Learning test data, Critical Skills Assessment Data, Student Reading Inventories, and Task and Performance-Based Assessments.
  • Assists administrators in developing comprehensive school learning plans using relevant school data and evidence-based practices.
  • Works with the directors of school leadership to suggest and monitor updates to the school learning plans throughout the year.
  • Works with members of the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment team to create professional development plans for teachers based on evidence from classroom walkthroughs, student performance outcomes, teacher surveys, and other data.
  • Works closely with the Academies of Hampton to develop and implement signature experiences, performance assessments, and project-based learning.
  • Maintains budgets for curriculum writing, curriculum implementation, special programs, and more.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision. 
  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field required. Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience as a Principal, Assistant Principal, Curriculum Leader, or other central office administrator required with a minimum of three years of classroom experience.
  • Experience in educational leadership, with a proven track record in curriculum development and instructional leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of current educational trends, pedagogical theories, and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusiveness, and diversity in education.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions.
  • Thorough understanding of Understanding by Design and how to use it to write and review curriculum.
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation to support educational programs.
