SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES ASSISTANT
 
 
Location: Tucson Campus  
Employee Status: Permanent  
Hours Per Week: 40
Work Calendar: 10-Month
Pay Rate: $17.46/hr-$25.00/hr  

 
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
 CLASS SUMMARY:
Assists licensed Register Nurses, School Health Services Assistant provides health and medical support to students as needed. Accomplish administrative and simple medical responsibilities including provision of first aid for injuries, recording symptoms of sick students, administering doctor-approved medication to students, providing emergency care when necessary, and keeping records of each student who visits Student Health Services. This position is open to Certified Nursing Assistants, Health Assistants, Medical Assistants, EMTs, or related position. The School Health Services Assistant is responsible for calling parents or guardians of sick children or doctors who can provide emergency care. Reports sensitive situations, school health hazards, and any compromising trends of injuries/illness to licensed Registered Nurse or Nurse Manager.
 
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Completion of Arizona Department of Education approved Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT Program
  • 2 years experience in special needs healthcare preferred
  • First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillators
LICENSED/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to pass FBI and State background check or Fingerprint Clearance Card as position requires by policy or Statute
  • Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business
  • Job related certification in good standing
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Policies, procedures, and programs of the immediate work unit

  • Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
  • Federal and State rules and regulations governing paraprofessional nursing

  • Computer proficiency, either Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

  • Assist with student transports and care
