TSA Elementary Student Educational Access and Opportunity

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Elementary Educational Access and Opportunity Teacher Specialist will provide instructional support to schools, teachers, and students in order to increase student achievement by ensuring equitable educational practices and culturally responsive instruction. This position works collaboratively with all educators, and district educational support teams with the primary focus of providing educational support and resources to meet the needs of students learning English as a New Language.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Deepen educators’ awareness, understanding, and respect for diverse cultural perspectives, by using research-based instructional practices.
  •  Assist the Director in data collection and analysis, by using multiple data sources to help identify students; needs and determine priorities for assistance, monitor district-wide student progress, and sustain continuous improvement of student learning and performance.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments (i.e. Curriculum, Student Support, Innovative Learning, and Special Education) to implement evidence-based practices to increase the academic achievement of all students.
  • Work collaboratively with Instructional coaches, ESL coaches, Innovative coaches, ELD teachers, and ESL paraeducators to increase the academic achievement of multilingual learners.
  • Assist teachers of Multilingual learners with the implementation of Language Acquisition programs and strategies.
  • Support educators to increase student engagement and culturally responsive teaching with evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with schools and teachers to address immediate needs and differentiate instruction.
  • Assist schools with Federal Law, State Law, and District Policy with identification, placement, instructional services, progress monitoring, and meeting exit criteria for all multilingual students
  • Lead learning groups and provide professional learning opportunities by coaching teachers to ensure consistency and fidelity to high standards of instructional effectiveness.
  • Assist the Alpine District ESL Endorsement Program 
  • Provide educators with knowledge and skills to involve families and other stakeholders in the education and preparation of students for their educational journey toward graduation and career readiness
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check
  • Requires a Master’s Degree.
  • Requires a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah
  • Requires a Level 2 or above certification with a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience; a variety of grade levels/courses preferred
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred
  • ESL endorsement preferred
  • Prior community-based experience with multilingual students, refugee, homeless, and culturally diverse populations preferred
  • Must be skilled in working with diverse groups, building consensus, and maintaining focus on student needs
  • Requires ability to communicate orally and in written form
  • Must be able to take initiative, work independently, be flexible, and be a collaborative team player
  • Must demonstrate the highest standards of collaboration, integrity, professionalism, and respect for others

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS---Not limited to the following:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
