The job of Purchasing Auction Technician (Surplus Auction Technician) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the warehousing operations with specific responsibilities for maintaining required inventory levels; ensuring specifications, quantity and quality of orders are correct; verifying stock and identifying losses; maintaining an organized surplus warehouse layout; overseeing surplus auction and surplus inventory sales; transporting orders over designated routes; ensuring safe operation of vehicles; and loading and unloading orders.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists public and charter schools with surplus items for the purpose of providing gently used learning materials and resources to students throughout the District and collecting the best value for aged and discarded District resources and assets.
  • Delivers a variety of items (e.g. mail, boxes, packages, cargo, office supplies, furniture, equipment, etc.) for the purpose of distributing susrplus/warehouse items to assigned locations and/or individuals.
  • Loads and unloads delivery trucks for the purpose of receiving stock and/or filling orders for transport.
  • Maintains current knowledge of school needs and has general background knowledge of school equipment, materials, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring accurate information is available.
  • Manages surplus warehouse (e.g. receiving items for surplus auction; maintaining manual and electronic files and records of surplus to include product description, photos, product category, minimum bid price; itemizing and tracking reimbursable CTE items, etc.) for the purpose of accurate documentation of auction items and related activities, providing reliable resource information, and ensuring items are efficiently stored/displayed and in a safe and sanitary work area.
  • Manages online public surplus auction and sales (e.g. preparing items to be advertised, removing sensitive data from devices, photographing items; determining item description, value, and placement on auction site; providing customer support for platform issues, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient operation of online surplus auction sales in accordance of district guidelines.
  • Operates warehouse machinery (e.g. forklift, pallet jack, etc.) for the purpose of safe and efficient transportation of large items in accordance with safe operating procedures.
  • Oversees the employee computer buy-back program for the purpose of ensuring the computer meets the program guidelines; facilitating the transaction for the effective and efficient operation of the program in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Participates in physical inventories for the purpose of verifying stock and identifying losses.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. auction lists, labels, photographs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Processes all auction items (e.g. receives, tests, cleans, performs minor repairs and ensures deletion of confidential information on technology devices; establishes researched-based fair market value; packages/ships sold items; closes out records of sold items, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper handling and sale of items in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Provides accurate guidance and information in the saled process according to current guidelines and policies to the public concerning sailes and auctions for the purpose of maximizing return of dollars for surplus items.
  • Pulls orders for the purpose of meeting delivery requirements and ensuring accuracy of items and quantity requested.
  • Receives payments for auction items (e.g. cash and credit card payments, etc.) for the purpose of completing transactions according to established regulations.
  • Researches discrepancies on orders and/or invoices (e.g. overages, shortages, duplicate or incorrect deliveries, etc.) for the purpose of correcting errors and/or returning damaged/incorrect items to customers.
  • Responds to inquiries related to auction items for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  • Tracks requests for specific items by schools and departments for the purpose of reducing excess stock and order duplications by matching requests to product availability.
