2008 Scholarship Winners Announced
We are pleased to announce the winners of the second Aspiring Educator Scholarship Competition! Each of the winners will be awarded $1,000 towards their education for the 2008-2009 school year. We were highly pleased with the quality of the candidates who applied for the scholarship and the review process yielded these five top-notch individuals as the winners:

Behroz Nowrojee, FL Behroz Nowrojee, FL
Behroz is working towards her master's degree in special education at the University of Florida. Her degree will help her provide a stimulating learning environment where she will be able to differentiate instruction in order to accommodate diverse learners, giving each child an equal opportunity. She hopes to take a leadership role in the field of education in order to change existing education policies

Brittany McFadden, AZ Brittany McFadden, AZ
Brittany has earned her Bachelor of Science in speech pathology/therapy and is currently working towards her Masters of Science in occupational therapy at the University of Puget Sound. She believes her life calling is to serve others and plans to do so by developing and implementing new programs and services to benefit underserved populations. Her plans include working in low-income school districts and community non-profit organizations.

Wendy Knowles, WA Wendy Knowles, WA
Wendy helped co-create a not-for-profit business which provides services for children with autism. She is currently working towards her master's degrees in Psychology and Counseling with a specialty in Applied Behavioral Analysis at Lynn University, which will allow her to get her board certification as a behavior analyst.

Sarah Hamrick, SC Sarah Hamrick, SC
Sarah is nearing graduation from Winthrop University with her bachelor's degree in special education and a concentration in severe and profound disabilities. After completing her degree, she plans to return to her hometown in South Carolina to work as a special education teacher, and aspires to return and earn her master's degree in the special education field.

Katie Atkinson, SC Katie Atkinson, SC
Katie was inspired to pursue a career in occupational therapy after witnessing first-hand the progress achieved through her brother's occupational therapy. Currently pursuing her master's degree in Occupational Therapy at the Medical University of South Carolina, she has learned through personal experience that occupational therapists not only treat the individual, they impact the family as well. Katie strives to improve the quality of life for each individual she comes in contact with, while working with special needs children in a school system.

We were highly pleased with the quality of the candidates who applied for the scholarship and the review process yielded these three top-notch individuals as the winners:

Kristine Meyer Kristine Meyer is currently a first semester senior at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Upon completion of her degree, she will begin her journey as a speech-language pathologist.

Tessa Whalen Donato Tessa Whalen Donato is a graduate student at the University of Minnesota, Mankato, majoring in Early Childhood Special Education. With a large Latino population in her community, Tessa is excited to realize the benefits she can bring as the first Bilingual Early Childhood Special Education teacher to the Mankato-St. Peter area.

  Corinne Cook is a graduate student at the University of Minnesota enrolled in the M.Ed Teacher Licensure Program for Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Through her work as an interpreter, she discovered her passion for teaching and is fascinated with deaf culture and American Sign Language. Her plan is to complete her master’s degree and earn her deaf/hard of hearing licensure.
