  Position:  Special Education Coordinator/Behavioral Specialist

  QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold a valid and current license from Colorado Department of Education with a Special Services provider endorsement.  Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education also required. * 

*Or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework.

District Qualifications: * Support students, parents, staff, and school directors at two center based special education programs with the following:   * Coordinate and implement an array of services for students with Individualized needs within a continuum of educational settings * Plan and implement successful inclusion opportunities in the general education setting to ensure that students with disabilities participate in the general education environment with their non-disabled peers * Effective parent communication/involvement * IEP Development * Coordinating identified services

* Provide job embedded coaching for two center based special education programs in the district. * Plan, support and deliver professional development and job-embedded coaching for special education and general education teaching staff on: * Effective strategies to utilize with students who are demonstrating behavioral, social, and emotional challenges * Writing and implementing effective and comprehensive behavior plans. * IEP development and IEP meeting facilitation * Effective grouping strategies and scheduling * Effective parent communication/involvement

* At least 5 years of experience working in the field of Special Education. * Collaborate in the development of special education procedures that are aligned with the Individuals with a Disability Act and the Exception Children’s Education Act, and effectively communicate and support all special education staff in following these identified procedures. * Possess a strong understanding of federal and state special education law * Demonstrate strong critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills * Demonstrate strong conflict resolution skills * Ability to communicate positively and effectively with students, parents, school personnel and community members * Independent technology skills * Possess highly effective organization, collaboration, and consultation skills * Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director

 

Preferred Qualifications: * Leadership experience in the field of Special Education * Hold an Administrator License * Bilingual * Experience working with community agencies that support children and families * Experience working with schools on implementing the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
