Job Title: School Librarian (K-12) (FLSA: Exempt) Job Objectives: Germantown Municipal School District’s School Librarian staff members are expected to provide best instructional practices ensuring that students have a quality educational experience evident by socio-emotional growth and academic achievement. Minimum Qualifications: • School librarian licensure or licensure eligibility in the state of Tennessee • Masters degree in Library Science and Information Studies from a program with appropriate accreditation. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: • Ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. • Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful readers, & ethical users of information. • Instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement units of instruction and to assess student learning. • Align the School Library Program with the mission and goals of the school and the district • Lead classrooms in the learning process and how research is done in an educational manner • Collaborate with teachers as partners on how to access information for students that is applicable and meaningful • Promote instructional technology to improve learning • Serve on decision making teams and school leadership teams • Stay current in professional practices, educational research; maintains active professional memberships • Foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community • Develop and maintain resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and instructional strategies of the school • Cooperate and network with other libraries/agencies • Perform a variety of non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instructional development activities, student supervision, and consultation activities. • Be prepared to perform the job in accordance with the Teacher Evaluation Plan as established by the District and approved by the State Department of Education. Sets clear metrics for success. • Motivates, inspires, and moves students to action to achieve ambitious goals. Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises students as designated on the class roster. Also supervises students in general common areas when class is not in session. Standard classroom environment
