Description

     If you need to stop by the Board Office, you MUST make an appointment ahead of time.

     State and County Certified Substitutes will receive $125.00 per day 
     Substitute Nurses $230 per day 
  
Please complete the applitrack application and upload the following documents-
  • Resume
  • Certificates (County or State if you have one)
  • Criminal History Review (see below)
  • Transcripts 
  • Reference letters
  • Once all documents are submitted and reviewed, you may be contacted for an interview.      
  • Note you will need to obtain test results from a TB/Mantoux. The form will be emailed to you after your interview.


* How to obtain a New Jersey Substitute Teacher Credentialas required by the State of New Jersey, the following additional procedures must be followed.
Apply online in the  New Jersey Educator Certification (NJEdCert) Portal for the substitute credential and pay the $125.00 application fee. For technical support, call 609-292-2070 or email GeneralCertQuestionsNJEdCert@doe.nj.gov.


Apply for your substitute credential on the NJDOE online educator certification system, NJEdCert.

30-Credit Instructional Substitute Credential:

  • Completion of 30 semester-hour credits at a nationally accredited college or university.
  • Educator must be enrolled in a nationally accredited college or university at the time of application. Verification of enrollment is required.
  • Educator must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Criminal History Record Check: approval date must be within 5 months of the application date with “Substitute Teacher” as the job position.
OR 

60-Credit Instructional Substitute Credential:

  • Completion of 60 semester-hour credits at a nationally accredited college or university.
  • Criminal History Record Check: approval date must be within 5 months of the application date with “Substitute Teacher” as the job position.

Complete Criminal History Record Check Process - Below are instructions and codes needed for the process of New Applicants and Archiving Applicants.

Criminal History / Fingerprinting:  
Please go to the following  website https://nj.gov/education/crimhist/index.html

For New Applicants or applicants that were fingerprinted before  February 21, 2003, should select
 “New Administration Fee Request”.
  1. Pay administrative fee(s) for the criminal history background clearance and print out the IdentoGO New Jersey Universal Fingerprint Form from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Office of Student Protection webpage ($11)
  2. Go to the Identogo Website to schedule an appointment and pay fingerprinting fees 
       3. Attend the scheduled appointment time and get fingerprinted. Make sure to bring the following to your scheduled appointment:

o Picture Identification (ID) Note: Foreign passports will no longer be accepted as proof of identification;
 

 o IdentoGO New Jersey Universal Fingerprint Form; and
 

 o Verify criminal history status form. https://www.nj.gov/education/crimhist/

New Applicants: When on the site, fill out the needed information. See the website for current fees for new applicants for school employment. There is a $10.00 administrative fee that is charged by the Department of Education plus a convenience fee charged by the vendor NicUSA.

You will then be directed to schedule a fingerprinting session

Archiving of fingerprints:
You will need your PCN # from your original fingerprinting clearance letter, and follow the online directions to Archive 
Candidates who have been fingerprinted after February 21, 2003, and have broken continuity (have not worked in the past school year)  need to have their fingerprints archived.

Click on Archive Process and follow the instructions, as follows for Archive Application Requests
Enter PCN Number (if this is your 1st archive request, you can obtain this number from your original MorphoTrust receipt. If this is a subsequent archive request, you would use the previous PCN number, if needed that can be found on the Office of Student Protection Unit Website, by putting in your social security number and birth date.

Click on submit to complete this transaction.  If successful, a confirmation page will be displayed with a transaction number and an e-payment confirmation number. Print this page for your records.
