Description

MAJOR FUNCTION: The assistant principal is responsible for assisting the principal with the administrative and supervisory functions of his/her school. This administrator assumes any duties assigned by the principal and is fully responsible for the school program in the absence of the principal.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the principal in providing leadership in: Developing, implementing, and evaluating school philosophy, goals and objectives. Developing and maintaining a positive school climate and a safe and healthy environment. Planning, implementing, and evaluating the school instructional program based on student needs and within state and district guidelines. Planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating all other programs and events (such as school clubs, athletics, extra-curricular activities, field trips, etc.) Determining staffing needs including selection, supervision, staff development and evaluation of all school personnel. Disseminating and implementing district policies and procedures. Managing finances including the budget, record keeping processes, and inventory control. Demonstrating effective communication and interaction skills with the public. Maintaining records and necessary reports for efficient operation of school and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Planning and managing for efficient utilization and maintenance of the school plant. Evaluating student achievements and using data for continual improvement. Enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies. Taking all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Participating in professional development activities. Performing other related duties as required.
