Summary of Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Principal, the teacher's responsibilities are to lead classroom instruction to achieve state standards, IEP goals, transition planning guides, and/or district graduation requirements.  The teacher is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the classroom environment (i.e. students and paraprofessional aides).  Interprets and actualizes school curriculum within the classroom environment and is responsible to deliver instruction at various levels in the classroom to insure every student the opportunity to succeed educationally, behaviorally, and have the opportunity to explore vocational situations.

Essential Functions:

      Establishes collaborative relationships with colleagues, consultants, therapists, and administrators.

      Maintains the required educational certifications and training required of all Parkland Preparatory Academy employees as well as those professional certifications and endorsements required by ISBE.

      Keeps informed, and actively seeks training in current developments, trends, and instructional best practices which pertain to the overall success of the student by maximizing his or her individual skills and talents.

      Assists in physically restraining students and/or crisis management when necessitated by student behavior.

      Attends scheduled team meetings.

      Recognizes and proactively reacts to conditions which, potentially, may alter the effectiveness of the whole program and/or their specific job responsibilities.

      Gathers information from other staff and completes individual tasks/assignments prior to staffing and/or completion date.

      Completes IEP and/or other reports to be presented at staffings.

      Gives verbal or written feedback of student's progress and future goals and objectives at staffing.

      Communicates with parents/guardians and external consumers in a positive and supportive manner.

      Participates and contributes to in-service trainings and staff development opportunities and provides input and suggestions for future topics and directions.

      Attends classes, conferences, and other opportunities for learning for personal professional development.

      Demonstrates knowledge of all procedures related to emergencies and disasters.

      Participates in discussions in a proactive, professional, and solution focused manner. 

      Confronts issues with other staff honestly and respectfully.  Processes incidences to a mutually satisfactory conclusion.

Educational/Experience:

Must have an Illinois Teaching Certification with Learning Behavioral Specialist certification / endorsement / approval (LBSI).
