At Academy High School, teachers utilize a STEM focus to help students develop powerful problem-solving and critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning experiences.  All staff work to develop collaborative relationships, which support students, foster curiosity, builds high learning expectations, and a climate and culture of respect and care.  Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are infused into all content areas to engage students in a well-rounded education.  All Academy students take math, science, English each year and social studies for three years.  In addition, students take elective courses including; engineering and biomedical science (Project Lead The Way courses), computer science/technology, and Nano-technology, that integrate core science and math knowledge with problem based/design thinking instruction to ignite the spark of ingenuity, creativity, and imagination.  This position requires endorsement as highly qualified in secondary math, or course work in math, science, technology, engineering, or mathematics with the willingness to seek alternative teaching license.  Candidates with dual certification in math and science are encouraged to apply. Training specific to Project Lead The Way courses would be provided as needed and appropriate to the experience of the teacher.  Collaboration with staff in order to integrate STEM concepts across all content areas, and help students develop the skills and knowledge to meet and exceed the Colorado Model Content Standards, is required. 

  Required Qualifications: * Colorado teaching license with an appropriate content area endorsement required.  Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education preferred.* *Or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework. * Secondary teaching experience in math and/or dual endorsement in math and science is preferred.

  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences:

•     Deep understanding of Colorado Model Content Standards and the Grade Level Expectations in all levels of math high school mathematics;

•     Desire to grow professionally, be reflective, and seek out new opportunities;

•     Experience using multiple formative and summative assessments to determine students’ level of proficiency provide feedback to students, and to create flexible groups for differentiated instruction.

•     Experience using a wide range of effective instructional practices (active pedagogy) including inquiry based instruction, to give students support and multiple opportunities needed to meet or exceed standards.

•     Experience designing standards based learning experiences, including identifying and preparing course materials, which supports students skill development in one or more of the following areas: science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics;

•     Experience with ELL strategies integrated into core content instruction and assessments or CLD certificate/endorsement;

•     Experience with developing problem-based instruction and project based learning.

  Job responsibilities and expectations: 

1.         Have a commitment to raising achievement among all student including high-need students, students with disabilities, and those who are performing below grade level;

2.         Develop rigorous and relevant lesson plans, which ensure instruction is connected to standards, differentiated to support learning, engages all students in authentic and productive learning, and ensures smooth classroom management. 

3.         Provide students with skills necessary to meet or exceed the Grade Level Expectations of the Colorado Model Content Standards with defined sequential outcomes, authentic and engaging instruction, and modeled assessment expectations.

4.         Clearly communicate student progress and achievements throughout course work with students and parents;

5.         Maintain professional communications and interactions with student, parent community, and staff;

6.         Willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues across content areas and participate in planning meetings to develop integrated instruction and improve teaching practices, including rigorous curriculum, authentic instruction and multiple assessment strategies; 

7.         Assist students in making connections between core course of study and STEM concepts in a supportive learning environment;

8.         Attend and take full advantage of professional development offered;

9.         Model, instill, and actively participate in building a supportive and positive culture through Academy’s six character pillars;

10.       Perseverance in the face of challenges.
