Family Consumer Science Teacher

The position for a Family Consumer Science Teacher will be available at East Central ISD for the 2024-2025 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Family Consumer Science (FCS) designed to fulfill their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills that will prepare them for success in higher education and careers.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
  1. Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instruction based on students’ individual needs.
  2. Develop and implement Family Consumer Science lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program, reflect accommodations for learning style differences, and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  3. Present content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. 
  4. Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  5. Work with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students as identified in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  6. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  7. Plan and monitor the workflow of instructional assistants and volunteers as appropriate.
  8. Plan with ESL teachers to support ELL students with mastery of content knowledge. 
  9. Identify an industry certification exam(s) aligned to content knowledge.  Provide instruction throughout the year to support 90% or above passing rates among Level I and Level II coherent sequence completers.
  10. Administer safety exams prior to allowing students to work with equipment/resources in the FCS classroom.
  11. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  12. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  13. Support the mission of the school district by serving as a positive role model for students.
  14. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
  15. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  17. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staff.
  18. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  19. Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth.
  20. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies for classroom teachers, including daily attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality.
  21. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
  22. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  23. Knowledge of project-based learning programs.
  24. Ability to advertise the FCS program to students, staff, parents, and the business community.
  25. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  26. Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment.
  27. Comply with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics.
  28. Performs other duties assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certificate:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Experience in providing training or instruction preferred  

EQUIPMENT USED:  Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]  

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.  Work prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.  Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). Work inside; may work outside; regular exposure to noise. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students.  Exposure to biological hazards.

SALARY:  Based on the 2024-2025 Classroom Teacher Salary Scale
