THE FOLLOWING POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR

ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: A caring, certified special education teacher who will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing standards-aligned instructional programs in a learning environment that helps special education students develop to their full academic potential.

REPORTS TO: Elementary Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education

COMPENSATION: As per the CEA Master Agreement. Years of teaching experience will be considered.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a valid K-5 teaching certificate with a certification to teach special education for the state of Michigan (or be able to obtain temporary approval).  Preference will be given to endorsements in Early Childhood or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  2. Must have an in-depth understanding of special education students, current special education law, and the IEP process.

  3. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

  4. Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.

  5. Must be able to work as part of a team.

  6. Experience working with at-risk students and their families is preferred.

  7. Must be highly organized and able to multi-task.

  8. Must be self-directed and self-motivated.

  9. Must have a high level of proficiency in Google Programs, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Classroom,  as well as Microsoft Office.

  10. Must be willing to become certified in CPI strategies and be able to lift and assist students when necessary, including physical management.

  11. Must receive a satisfactory response to the PA 189 Letter. (Misconduct Law)

  12. Must satisfactorily pass:

  1. Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.

  2. Personal and professional reference background check.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plan and deliver instructional services that meet special education students' needs and educational goals as determined by their IEP assigned to their caseload.

  2. Timely coordinate and monitor students' initial and current IEP meetings, including goals and objectives.

  3. Communicate and work cooperatively with general education teachers, counselors, and administration.

  4. Differentiate and individualize instruction, including positive behavior interventions and supports.

  5. Communicate regarding different disabilities and their impact on learning and serve as a resource for staff.

  6. Observe and assess each student's needs.

  7. Maintain confidentiality of student and parent information.

  8. Maintain a positive attitude when working with students, parents, other staff members, and community members who visit Carrollton Public School facilities and programs.

  9. Serve as a member of a positive behavior support team as needed.

  10. Maintain good character with high moral and ethical values.

  11. Work to ensure a safe environment for students at all times.

  12. Attend conferences, workshops, and professional development as requested.

  13. Provide leadership and direction to paraprofessionals working with students.

  14. Other duties as assigned by the building principal/supervisor.
