Description
AAI is now accepting applications for a dynamic PE/Health, Outdoor Rec teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
The American Academy of Innovation (AAI) is a public charter school located in South Jordan, Utah serving grades 6-12. Applicants must be excellent team players and have a skill set that applies to a collaborative and cooperative project-based learning environment. Due to our purposeful small school design model, we do ask/expect teachers to take on an array of flexible and fluid roles and responsibilities, based on the needs of our students and the school. Teaching at AAI involves a high degree of integrity, respect, and drive, as well as excellent communication skills and a willingness to model a spirit of learning and a growth mindset (i.e. we expect our teachers to lead by example and model the qualities and attributes we look to help foster within our students). Our strong commitment to place-based hands-on learning will sometimes be physically demanding and could include field trips, hiking, intense gardening, etc. Therefore, applicants who desire to be active and appreciate the outdoors will be successful. Experience and interest in multiple fields of study are highly desirable, as well as demonstrated research, skilled writing, and math-minded acuity. Applicants may spend time outdoors in a hot/cold environment working to support extended research (intensive) projects alongside students. Confidence and poise are essential in balancing the need to allow students to take the lead while maintaining clear direction and focus on project goals within the framework of a team structure. Experience teaching in other disciplines would also be a great benefit. AAI adopted a Personalized, Competency-Based Learning (PCBL) framework three years ago. Due to some intentional shifts in our curriculum and instructional framework, we are seeking a few dynamic educators to join our team leading into the next school year. This position joins an existing corps of dedicated teachers that develop and implement a project-driven learning experience that involves Friday workshops, twice-per-year week-long immersions, and daily intensive courses alongside stand-alone course offerings and electives. A Utah State Teaching License is preferred but can be acquired with the appropriate prerequisite college degree and courses (a bachelor’s degree is required). Upon invitation for an interview meeting, applicants should submit a compelling cover letter outlining specific interest in teaching at AAI and sharing distinctive experiences and/or qualifications that would enrich the school and our student’s learning experience.
